I recently attended a conferences on community development and regionalisation, organised by the Community Development Foundation in conjunction with the Standing Conference on Community Development and the Federation of Community Work Training Groups. The purpose of the conferences were to explore the opportunities for networking across and between the regions with the focus on community development. Two publications were circulated at the conferences, by SCCD and the FCWTG's. A Framework for Community Development and A Strategic Framework for Community Development Learning. It is the second document and related issues that I am most interested in.The receipt of these publications was very timely as our Berkshire Learning & Skills Council had approached their CVS Liaison Group with a request for help to develop a community development learning strategy for Berkshire. It appeared that this was a directive for them, contained in one of their strategic documents. However, after some initial discussions, although it hasn't disappeared completely from the agenda, the issue has gone quiet.I would like to hear from anyone who is developing or has developed a community work / community development work learning strategy for their area. Or anyone who has local routes to community work / community development work training and qualifications. I do know there is an NVQ route to community work training but it does not seem to be available anywhere near Berkshire. Our Community & Youth Work course, based at Reading University, is about to close, although they are looking to diversify.I would like to hear from anyone who could help bring this training to Berkshire and who could identify who should or could be involved. Wokingham District - CVS, Reading Community Workers Network and other workers in other Unitary Authority areas throughout Berkshire will continue to pursue the development of this training and a possible local strategy but in the meantime if anyone has any comments or opinions, I would like to hear them.Rose GreenCommunity Resource WorkerWokingham District - CVS
