Role

Distributes lottery grants for heritage projects: cultural traditions, museums, historic buildings, archives, oral history, industrial and maritime heritage, historic transport, nature conservation. Offers range of programmes for capital projects or heritage-based activities to promote social inclusion, education and volunteering. Decisions on grant requests up to œ1m made by Committee for South East England: 2001/2 budget is œ17.5m. Decisions on grant requests over £1m made by board of Trustees. Staff decide on all grants up to £50,000.

History

The Heritage Lottery Fund is a non departmental public body and is administered by the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF) . The National Lottery Act of 1993 appointed NHMF to distribute lottery money. HLF money comes from Camelot and goes to the National Lottery Distributors Fund (NLDF) which is part of the Department of Media, Culture and Sport.

SOUTH EAST ENGLAND TEAM The casework staff assess and monitor all applications in South East England to the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Development Staff manage the pre-application and outreach service, offering advice and guidance on making applications through regional workshops, advice surgeries and one to ones.
