Role
To champion the whole spectrum of cultural and creative interests in the region - including tourism and sport;To forge links across this spectrum; andTo create a common vision expressed in a cultural strategy.
The Consortium carries out research, strategic development and advocacy for the cultural sector and aims to add value to the work of those developing cultural strategies at a local level.

Board Members
Consortia members are nominated by regional arts, museums, heritage, tourism and sporting bodies, libraries and archive interests, the Regional Development Agency, and local government. They are encouraged to seek other members from the creative industries, national lottery distributors, countryside, recreation and educational interests, and the voluntary sector. Regional Links
The Consortium is working closely with GOSE and SEEDA to develop its strategy for the development of cultural activity. It wants to ensure there is a relationship between SEEDA?s Regional Economic Strategy and the Consortium?s Regional Cultural Strategy.

Senior Executive
Chair of the Cultural Consortium is Sir David Watson, Director, University of Brighton (appointed by the Secretary of State at the DCMS).

History
Established in 2000, the group is one of eight regional cultural consortia set up by the then Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Chris Smith.
