Role
SERCC is the Association of the eight Rural community Councils in the South East of England. The member Rural Community Councils (RCCs) are charities in their own right, with a combined membership of other voluntary and community organisations totalling over 2000 in the South East region.
SERCC?s role is to promote the needs of rural communities, and to assist people and communities in rural areas to address their social, economic and environmental needs within the South East region.

Accountability
Two representatives are elected to the Board by each participating Rural Community Council - in most cases one representative is member of staff and the other is a non-staff trustee.

History
Ever since ACRE was formed in 1987, RCCs have met regionally. Recently this meeting was organised on a more formal basis and the regional grouping aligned with the government?s definition of the South East.
