Role

Southern Arts is the arts development agency for central southern England, covering the county areas of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire, and South East Dorset. Its function is to provide regional support, advice and funding for arts activity.

Accountability

The regional arts boards are currently going through a process of restructure - moving from being independent bodies reporting to the Arts Council to being regional arms of the Arts Council.

Regional Links

With the New Opportunities Fund, Community Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, and Sport England they contribute to the Awards for All lottery programme. They are feeding in to the Regional Cultural Consortium.

There is currently a consultation on the role of Regional Arts Boards and their relationship to the Arts Council.
