Job Title:

Welfare Benefits Supervisor/Caseworker

Job Description:

Main purpose of post: To provide advice to clients on specialist welfare benefit matters according to the Citizens Advice service and LSC specialist quality mark standards.Duties and responsibilities: Provide detailed casework in benefits including disability benefits. Prepare clients for, and if feasible, represent at benefit appeals. Make home/hospital visits as appropriate. Liaise and negotiate with local authorities, the DWP and other statutory and voluntary organisations. Maintain detailed case records for the purpose of continuity of casework, information retrieval and monthly statistics. Provide additional reports as required. Assist with the bureau's social policy work by providing information about clients' circumstances through the appropriate channel. Ensure that all work conforms to the Legal Services Commission contract and to the Specialist Quality Mark specifications. Keep up to date with legislation, case law, policies and procedures relevant to that required by the Legal Services Commisssion as a supervisor and by Citizens Advice. Have responsibility to uphold the Aims and Principles of the CAB service and it's Equal Opportunities policies. Provide supervisory support to other workers as required and as appropriate. Any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.

Salary Details:

Local authority spinal point 29-31. Hours: 18.5 per week. Holiday entitlement: 5 weeks p.a. pro rata. Responsible to Bureau Manager.

Person Description:

A minimum of 12 month's full time (or equivalent) recent welfare benefits advice casework experience in accordance with the Specialist Quality Mark requirements. Demonstrable knowledge of welfare benefits. Substantial experience in preparing for, and preferably representing at benefit tribunals. An ability to communicate effectively both in writiing and orally, with particular emphasis on negotiation and representation skills on the telephone. An ability to work without close supervision, manage and prioritise own workload and to meet deadlines. An ordered approach to casework and case recording, together with an ability and willingness to comply with LSC contract rules. Demonstarte ability to work with a team commited to quality standards. IT literate. A willingness to undertake training and professional development. Commitment to the aims, principles and policies of the CAB service, including the Equal Opportunities and Anti-racism policies.
