Shepway Volunteer Centre is looking for an Outreach Worker to develop its volunteer recruitment service in rural areas, to meet the needs of local community groups and voluntary organisations, and to assist those who are disadvantaged to access volunteering opportunities.The Outreach Worker will undertake a mapping exercise of current volunteering activity in rural areas and create an effective outreach strategy which will increase the numbers of volunteers to meet the needs of the not for profit sector.The project aims to address some of the barriers to volunteering for people in rural areas, and to assist in access to and provision of training which will enable more people to volunteer.The Outreach Worker, together with the Manager of the Volunteer Centre, will work with managers of volunteers to ensure methods of best practice are shared throughout the network.The hours for his post are 20 per week and may include occasional weekend work.

Salary Details:

NJC spinal column point 19 (pro rata).

Person Description:

Applicants must be skilled communicators capable of working on their own initiative with volunteers and management of voluntary organisations. Good organisational skills will be needed for planning recruitment events and knowledge of the voluntary sector is desirable. Clean driving licence essential, and own vehicle an asset. Good computer skills are necessary for reports, monitoring and evaluation of the project's effectiveness.

Shepway Volunteer Centre is a local volunteer development agency and an accredited member of Volunteering England. The organisation recruits and places volunteers with not-for-profit organisations throughout Shepway; promotes volunteering and offers information about volunteering to the general public; supports and trains volunteers; develops new volunteering opportunities; campaigns and comments on volunteering issues. In addition the Centre runs some direct services (Transport&Befriending;) and projects to support 9-16 year olds, the learning disabled and people with mental ill health in their volunteering.
