Transport seminar information
Context
The seminar will focus on transport in rural areas, looking particularly at the problems faced by individuals and communities when accessing services such as health facilities, shops, employment, social and leisure activities.
We will discuss practical ways to improve the situation and highlight examples of good practice being pioneered within Hampshire and elsewhere.
The seminar will look at modes of transport other than the private car and how to achieve better integration e.g. between rail and bus services.
The event is open to anyone with an interest in rural transport.
Speakers
Our keynote speaker will be Alun Hughes from the Governments Social Exclusion Unit, who will give an overview of the work being undertaken on behalf of the Prime Minister on the links between transport and social exclusion.
Speakers from The Countryside Agency and New Forest District Council will also give presentations.
Workshops and outcomes
Delegates will be invited to attend workshops to discuss issues such as bus and rail services and infrastructure, community transport, integrated transport, accessibility and information.
Through these workshops, action points will be agreed to take forward, and the Committee for Rural Hampshire will present the findings of the seminar to the relevant organisations and identify where improvements are needed.
The proceedings of the seminar will be published in report form.

We all know that there are major problems faced by rural communities with regard to transport provision.
We are keen to hear your views on how problems can be solved and how we can work together to build a better transport system.
Please let us know on the booking form if there are any particular issues you would like to raise.
Transport specialists will be on hand to discuss these issues and offer advice.
