Children, Young People and FamiliesChildren Young People and Families is RAISE's seventh policy priority area and we are keen to start developing work on it with our members. In recent years there has been significant Government focus, primarily from the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) on producing policy documents relating to children and young people including the Green Paper, Every Child Matters 2003 and The Children Act 2004. The whole framework of services for children and young people will be affected by the Government's plans to establish Children's Trusts which will be a model for joined-up working for all relevant stakeholders. The Government has acknowledged the instrumental role that the voluntary/community sector (VCS) has in this area of work and is committed to the sector's involvement. RAISE is aware that many of its members are working with some of the two million children in the South East which make up nearly a quarter of the region's population. We also know that it can be difficult for VCOs to work out how they can and should fit in strategically with the new framework and how it will affect the delivery of their services. RAISE will be consulting with members to find out how our members want us to take this work forward. RAISE will also be producing information on relevant policy documents and will consult with relevant organisations such as the South East Youth Partnership and Next Level Partnership. |
