Learning & SkillsIn April 2004, the South East Regional Compact on Learning and Skills was agreed between the voluntary/community sector (VCS) and the 6 local Learning and Skills Councils (LLSCs). The Compact was developed in line with the national Compact between Government and the VCS and reflects the commitment of the Learning and Skills Council nationally to develop an overarching strategy for working with the sector. RAISE and the 6 LLSCs support each other in seeking to realise a learning society in the South East: "a society in which everyone has the opportunity to go as far as their talents and efforts will take them, taking advantage of learning opportunities and participating fully".' - March 2004 The Compact was the first Learning and Skills Compact to be agreed in the country. As a result of the Compact, a Compact Advisory Group was formed comprising of members from the VCS and the LLSCs and others. A Regional Learning and Skills Leader at RAISE was appointed and started in January 2005. The Regional Learning and Skills Leader will be working with both the VCS and the LLSCs to promote the mutual advantage of working together in a variety of ways. A Compact Delivery Plan has been drawn up and it will be concentrating on three main themes, which reflect themes from the 'Working Together' Strategy, the themes are:

NIACE NIACE (The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education - England and Wales) is a non-governmental organisation working for more and different adult learners.NIACE's formal aim is: "to promote the study and general advancement of adult continuing education." The Learning and Skills Council -The Learning and Skills Council exists to make England better skilled and more competitive. The LSC have a single goal: "To improve the skills of Englandâs young people and adults to ensure we have a workforce of world-class standard." Sussex Voluntary Community Sector Learning Consortium -The Sussex Voluntary and Community Sector Learning Consortium is a group of voluntary and community organisations who share an interest in promoting learning opportunities. Hampshire LearningNet -LearningNet is a workforce development project created by a group of voluntary sector organisations. It aims to identify and meet the learning needs of staff and volunteers working in the voluntary and community sector. Community Action Hampshire is the lead body and the project is funded by the Learning and Skills Council. |
