Job Title:

Learning Disabilities Development Officer

Job Description:

Job Purpose:This project represents a multi-layered approach to developing accessible services for people with learning disabilities in the Sevenoaks district. The Learning Disability Development Officer will be responsible for working with community partners to expand and improve services available to adults with learning disabilities and for exploring and creating a network of accessible day time activities.Main Responsibilities:- To make links with voluntary and statutory organisations, local businesses and individuals to explore the development of accessible daytime activities for adults with learning disabilities. - To work in conjunction with other learning disability development funded projects being delivered within the Sevenoaks district.- To research the needs, the numbers and the aspirations of adults with learning disabilities in the district to address unmet need, particularly reaching those people currently unknown to local agencies.- Through cross sector networking, create a database of real and sustainable opportunities that can be accessed by adults with learning disabilities such as opportunities in education, training, employment, volunteering, sport, leisure and socialising.- Research support programmes running elsewhere in the country, particular within the voluntary and community sector, and build on good practice learnt from identified schemes.- To work with SVDA, Sevenoaks District Partnership Group and Kent County Council to produce a development plan outlining a network of opportunities for people with learning disabilities to access in the local area.- To attend SVDA, Sevenoaks District Partnership Group and Kent County Council meetings as required.and Liising and update progress of the project to the with Sevenoakd district speaking up groups- To provide regular written and verbal progress reports as required.- To pilot and evaluate some community placements.- To maintain relevant records of all work carried out.- To adhere to stated policies and procedures relating to equality and diversity, health & safety and quality management.- To carry out other duties commensurate to the post.

Salary Details:

£18,000 - £20,000 pa plus travel allowance

Person Description:

Experience:- Experience of working with a variety of organisations eg statutory, voluntary and commercial- Experience of working in community based services for people with learning disabilities (or other similar user groups)- Experience of developing person centred services for people with learning disabilities (or other similar user groups) would be an advantage

Organisation summary:

Sevenoaks Volunteer Development Agency (SVDA) is part of a group of organisations that has been working with the Sevenoaks & District Partnership Group to develop a network of opportunities in the local area for adults with learning disabilities. The work has been undertaken in partnership with Kent County Council and has led to the creation of this post. The contract is for two years and is jointly funded through the Learning Disability Development Fund and Kent County Council. Experience of supporting people with a learning disability would be a distinct advantage. However, arrangements have been made for external supervision to be available to the successful applicant should it be required.
