Development Officer Centre of Volunteering Excellence

Job Purpose:This Centre of Volunteering Excellence project has been commissioned by KentCAN through its Consortium Delivery Board as part of the ChangeUp funding programme. You will be spearheading an exciting new initiative in West Kent to develop new ways of recruiting and inspiring volunteers. This will include implementing a number of pilot projects to target groups that are currently under represented and developing examples of best practice for voluntary and community sector organisations to use when involving volunteers in their work. It will require working with other partners and will be an exciting and challenging opportunity to make a difference.Main Responsibilities:⢠To organise and run, in conjunction with partners, a series of pilot projects around sport and art activities aimed at testing new ways of recruiting volunteers. ⢠To run a speed matching event to recruit and match volunteers⢠To work in partnership with Volunteer Centre Gravesham, to set up a BME buddy scheme to support up to 60 individual volunteers from ethnic minority groups and work with local voluntary and community groups to identify appropriate volunteering opportunities.⢠To co-ordinate three workshops for voluntary and community organisations on volunteer management, motivation & retention to ensure that volunteers are appropriately supported and trained in the roles they undertake.⢠To collate successful and established approaches and procedures for recruitment, placement and retention of volunteering⢠To explore viable reward and recognition strategies⢠To prepare quarterly monitoring and evaluation reports⢠To attend quarterly partnership group meetings⢠To produce toolkit (electronic and hardcopy) to disseminate findings from research and pilots and share good practice with others⢠To coordinate county-wide Event to launch toolkit⢠To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post

Salary Details:

Up to £20,000 pa plus travel allowance

Person Description:
|
Experience:- Managing projects to time and budget- Experience of working with a variety of organisations eg statutory, voluntary and commercial- Experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers would be an advantage- Experience in marketing and/or PR would also be an advantage Skills:- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with a diverse range of partners and clients- A creative and innovative approach to all you undertake- Able to work to deadlines and produce results under pressure- Excellent IT skills, including word processing, presentation, spreadsheet and website skills- Decision-making ability, self-motivated and with the ability to motivate others- An understanding of diversity and equality issuesOther:- Availability to travel throughout the West Kent area and beyond if necessary and willingness to work flexible hours if required.- Access to a vehicle- The post is subject to an enhanced CRB check
